Clinical investigation has focused on HIV-associated lipodystrophy, a condition in which antiretroviral therapy contributes to abnormal fat distribution. Excess visceral adipose tissue accumulates in the abdomen while peripheral fat may be lost. Tesamorelin was evaluated for reducing this visceral fat depot, with trials measuring changes in abdominal fat by imaging rather than by body weight alone. The rationale rests on the known lipolytic effects of growth hormone. Effects on visceral fat are documented, while long-term outcomes regarding cardiovascular risk remain less clearly established.
Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone, composed of 44 amino acids. It was designed to retain the biological activity of the native hormone while resisting rapid enzymatic degradation. The compound is classified as a growth hormone secretagogue and belongs to the broader family of hypothalamic releasing factors. In research and clinical settings, it is studied for its ability to stimulate pituitary growth hormone release. Its structure includes a modification at the N-terminus that contributes to an extended half-life relative to native growth hormone-releasing hormone.

The hexenoyl cap slows the enzyme step that trims the amino terminus of native GHRH, the same step that shortens its active lifetime in circulation. As a result, the modified peptide persists longer in plasma than the unmodified hormone in side-by-side comparison. Receptor activity stays broadly comparable, because the added group sits away from the residues that contact the binding site. This combination, preserved receptor activity with reduced degradation, explains why the analog was developed instead of the native sequence.
Several compounds share the GHRH framework, including sermorelin, the shorter 1-29 fragment, and other analogs built on the full 1-44 chain. Naming follows a common convention: a stem that identifies the peptide plus a suffix marking analog status. Reports may describe tesamorelin by its sequence fragment, as a GHRH(1-44) analog, or by its amino-terminal modification. Indexing the compound therefore requires searching all of these forms, since some older literature predates the current international nonproprietary name.
Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide built from 44 amino acids and classified with the growth hormone–releasing hormone family. Its sequence corresponds to the human GHRH(1-44) backbone, carrying one structural change at the amino terminus. That change is a trans-3-hexenoyl group placed where the natural peptide would have an unmodified end. The modification is the feature that separates the compound from the endogenous hormone in name, in stability, and in how it is handled in the laboratory.
Taha Othman Ishaq (or Osman), a lawyer and member of the FFC negotiating committee, declined his nomination by the FFC to the Sovereignty Council on the grounds that the FFC alliance had earlier agreed that members of the negotiating committee should not become members of the Sovereignty Council. Raja Nicola was the civilian member of the Sovereignty Council mutually chosen by the FFC and TMC. The choice of Nicola, as a member of the Sudanese Copt community, is seen as a symbol of respect for diversity, in particular to Sudanese Christians. On 4 February 2021, al-Burhan issued a decree to add three new members to the Council. The new members are Sudanese Revolutionary Front leader El Hadi Idris Yahya, Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North leader Malik Agar, and Sudan Liberation Movement for Justice-Karbino leader El Tahrir Abubakr Hajar.
==== Single atom ==== In 2008, a one atom thick, 10 atoms wide transistor was made of graphene. In 2022, researchers built a 0.34 nanometer (on state) single atom graphene transistor, smaller than a related device that used carbon nanotubes instead of graphene. The graphene formed the gate. Silicon dioxide was used as the base. The graphene sheet was formed via chemical vapor deposition, laid on top of the SiO2. A sheet of aluminum oxide was laid atop the graphene. The Al2Ox and SiO2 sandwiching the graphene act as insulators. They then etched into the sandwiched materials, cutting away the graphene and Al2Ox to create a step that exposed the edge of the graphene. They then added layers of hafnium oxide and molybdenum disulfide (another 2D material) to the top, side, and bottom of the step. Electrodes were then added to the top and bottom as source and drain. They call this construction a "sidewall transistor". The on/off ratio reached 1.02×105 and subthreshold swing values were 117 mV dec–1.
Minor histocompatibility antigens are due to normal proteins that are in themselves polymorphic in a given population. Even when a transplant donor and recipient are identical with respect to their major histocompatibility complex genes, the amino acid differences in minor proteins can cause the grafted tissue to be slowly rejected. Not long after assuming office, Mahathir visited Singapore in December 1981 as part of a delegation to meet with Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. Among various bilateral discussions, the two leaders agreed to implement a coordinated time adjustment. This led to the passing of the Malaysian Standard Time Act (1981), initiated by Mahathir. Later, Lee paid a return visit to Malaysia in August 1982. In the early days of his tenure, Mahathir improved relations with Singapore, not only strengthening bilateral ties but also gaining the support of the Malaysian Chinese community. During his time, Singapore's requests to Malaysia to move its railway immigration checkpoint away from Tanjong Pagar and disputes over water payments were major disagreements between the two countries. The Points of Agreement of 1990 set out the terms for developing land for a Rapid Transit System, although disputes still continued throughout the following decade. Mahathir and Singaporean counterparts also oversaw a dispute over the ownership of Pedra Branca, several islets between the two countries, with an agreed exchange of documents to settle ownership of the islets in 1981 being delayed until at least 1992. The 1997 Asian financial crisis further escalated tensions, with Singapore offering high interest rates for ringgit deposits leading to cash flow issues in Malaysia. However, Lee remarked that he had made more progress resolving bilateral issues with Mahathir between 1981 and 1990 than during the previous 12 years under Mahathir's two predecessors.
Viral inactivation is the process of rendering a virus incapable of causing infection. It plays a critical role across multiple fields, including clinical medicine, diagnostics, research, and the food industry. In clinical practice, inactivation is essential for preventing viral transmission through blood products—such as transfusions and other biological materials—as well as in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. In diagnostic and research contexts, inactivation enables the safe study and manipulation of viruses without risking transmission to laboratory staff or healthcare personnel. Moreover, in vaccine development, inactivated viruses are employed to stimulate the host immune system, promoting the production of neutralizing antibodies. A wide range of viral inactivation techniques exist, ranging from physical removal by filtration to mechanical and chemical methods. The choice of technique depends on the specific context and intended purpose. In many situations, a combination of methods is employed—particularly when handling highly pathogenic viruses—where absolute sterility is crucial. Some of the more common viruses removed by these methods are the HIV-1 and HIV-2 viruses; hepatitis A, B, and C; and parvoviruses.

== Mechanism of action == Didanosine (ddI) is a nucleoside analogue of adenosine. It differs from other nucleoside analogues, because it does not have any of the regular bases, instead it has hypoxanthine attached to the sugar ring. Within the cell, ddI is phosphorylated to the active metabolite of dideoxyadenosine triphosphate, ddATP, by cellular enzymes. Like other anti-HIV nucleoside analogs, it acts as a chain terminator by incorporation and inhibits viral reverse transcriptase by competing with natural dATP.
Nevertheless, this isotope, beryllium-10, has a half-life above a million years and a decay energy less than 1 MeV, which indicates unusual stability given that condition. Most beryllium present in the universe is thought to be formed by cosmic ray nucleosynthesis from cosmic ray spallation in the period between the Big Bang and the formation of the Solar System. The isotopes 7Be and 10Be are both cosmogenic nuclides because they are made, in the Solar System, continually at the rate they decay by spallation, as is carbon-14.
Taylor was not keen on Thomas taking another trip to the United States, and thought that if he had a permanent address in London he would be able to gain steady work there. She bought a property, 54 Delancey Street, in Camden Town, and in late 1951 Thomas and Caitlin lived in the basement flat. Thomas would describe the flat as his "London house of horror" and did not return there after his 1952 tour of America.

=== Cancer === People with cancer undergoing chemotherapy are often given dexamethasone to counteract certain side effects of their antitumor treatments. Dexamethasone can increase the antiemetic effect of 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, such as ondansetron. The exact mechanism of this interaction is not well-defined, but it has been theorized that this effect may be due to, among many other causes, inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, anti-inflammatory effects, immunosuppressive effects, decreased release of endogenous opioids, or a combination of the aforementioned. In brain tumors (primary or metastatic), dexamethasone is used to counteract the development of edema, which could eventually compress other brain structures. It is also given in cord compression, where a tumor is compressing the spinal cord. Evidence on the safety and efficacy of using dexamethasone to treat malignant brain tumors is not clear. Dexamethasone is also used as a direct chemotherapeutic agent in certain hematological malignancies, especially in the treatment of multiple myeloma, in which dexamethasone is given alone or in combination with other chemotherapeutic drugs, including most commonly with thalidomide (Thal-dex), lenalidomide, bortezomib (Velcade, Vel-dex), or a combination of doxorubicin (Adriamycin) and vincristine or bortezomib/lenalidomide/dexamethasone.

=== Treating trauma and painful wounds === Persistent chronic pain associated with non-healing wounds is caused by tissue (nociceptive) or nerve (neuropathic) damage and is influenced by dressing changes and chronic inflammation. Chronic wounds take a long time to heal and patients can experience chronic wounds for many years. Chronic wound healing may be compromised by coexisting underlying conditions, such as venous valve backflow, peripheral vascular disease, uncontrolled edema and diabetes mellitus. If wound pain is not assessed and documented it may be ignored and/or not addressed properly. It is important to remember that increased wound pain may be an indicator of wound complications that need treatment, and therefore practitioners must constantly reassess the wound as well as the associated pain. Optimal management of wounds requires holistic assessment. Documentation of the patient's pain experience is critical and may range from the use of a patient diary, (which should be patient driven), to recording pain entirely by the healthcare professional or caregiver. Effective communication between the patient and the healthcare team is fundamental to this holistic approach. The more frequently healthcare professionals measure pain, the greater the likelihood of introducing or changing pain management practices. At present there are few local options for the treatment of persistent pain, whilst managing the exudate levels present in many chronic wounds.
== Research == From looking at the patent bank the only research that has occurred around Cetacaine has been with certain medical procedures that use Cetacaine as an anesthetic or new dispensing containers or methods. One of the only studies that are current with Cetacaine is the one that the FDA is conducting surrounding the issue of patients contracting methemoglobinemia from the use of Cetacaine. In these studies it was recorded that 319 cases were reported and out of the 319, 32 were considered life-threatening and 3 cases resulted in death.
Ketogenic diet The ketogenic or "keto" diet involves intake of less than 50 g of carbohydrates daily along with increased fat and protein amounts. One type of ketogenic or low carbohydrate diet is the "Atkins" Diet, which does not restrict protein and fat amounts. Other ketogenic diets restrict the total amount of daily proteins and fats.
